Knox County Schools and the Knox County Health Department will be working together to implement contact tracing when members of our school communities test positive. The district is committed to providing timely information to individuals who have potentially been exposed to COVID-19. At the same time, we must comply with state and federal mandates – including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) – to protect the privacy of our students and employees.
KCS is working to protect its approximately 60,000 students and 8,000 employees from COVID-19, but it’s important to recognize that there will likely be positive cases at many of our schools during the semester.
The metrics KCS and KCHD are monitoring, will be available on the district’s dashboard here and updated daily after 4 p.m. Limited data of COVID-19 cases in the district can be shared at this time. Weekend numbers will be updated on Monday mornings.
