We had a great turnout at SOS’s Community Resource Fair!
Save Our Sons presented a Community Resource Fair at the new Honey Rock Events Center at 4001 Holston Drive that is adjacent to the Honey Rock Thrift Store, formerly AmVets.
Many SOS partners joined the effort by offering alternative options that can change lives. Those partners included; Metro Drug Coalition, Job Corps, Police Advisory and Review Committee (PARC), CONNECT Ministries, SEEED, YWCA, Knoxville Community Step-Up, Knoxville Area Urban League, Free Indeed International Ministries, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, Susannah’s House, Ticket to Work, Walking with Joy and the Family Justice Center.
The University of Tennessee College of Law and Knox County Public Defender’s Office conducted an expungement screening at the fair to help participants determine which offenses were eligible to be removed. The Tennessee Department of Safety Mobile Unit assisted individuals with drivers’ license reinstatement, renewals, duplicates and Real IDs.
According to Tatia Harris, the UTK College of Law assisted over 120 people with record expungements at the Community Resource Fair Sept 28th. They advised clients on voting rights restoration and took on some clients for other matters.
